Spruce up your living room during spring cleaning with these elegant blanket ladders. They can be used in any area of the home where you normally have no place to hang your blankets or towels. I’ve provided plans for two separate versions of this build to suit everyone’s needs and styles.
Step 1
Cut two 6’ - 2x4s on one end at a 15-degree angle to sit flush against the wall. Cut the opposite end of the same 2x4 in the opposite direction at that same angle to sit flat on the floor.
Step 2
FLAT RUNGS
Cut a 2x4 into 16” sections to be used as rungs.
CIRCULAR DOWEL RUNGS:
Cut the 1” dowel into 16” sections.
Step 3
CIRCULAR DOWEL OPTION:
1.Use any Rust-Oleum Painter’s Touch® Spray Paint to paint the dowels. I used Blossom White.
2. Use any Varathane wood stain to stain the 2 side 2x4s. I used a Light Walnut stain.
Step 4
CIRCULAR DOWEL OPTION:
Starting at 13” off the bottom, drill 1” holes into the centre of each 2x4, 11” inches apart.
*Careful not to drill all the way through the piece of wood, instead stopping about halfway through. This forms a pocket for the dowel to sit in.
Step 5
FLAT RUNG OPTION:
Using clamps, secure the flat rungs between the two side pieces 11” apart. Using the wood screws from the outside, secure each rung to the side pieces to assemble the ladder.
CIRCULAR DOWEL OPTION:
Squeeze wood glue into the drilled holes on each 2x4, insert the dowels into the holes along one side, attach the opposite side and use clamps to hold the ladder together while the glue dries.
Use a square to ensure that the dowels are perfectly at 90 degrees and level.
Step 6
Spray the final assembled piece with Varathane Triple Thick Clear Coat to finish and let dry. Decorate and stylize.
