DIY Chalkboard Wine Glasses

At any gathering, keeping track of which glass belongs to which guest can become a challenging feat. Give your guests a chic way to label their glass with Chalkboard spray paint. Here’s how we painted these chalkboard wine glasses in less than an hour.

1. PREPARE: Always work in a well-ventilated area and cover your workspace with a drop cloth to avoid overspray.  Clean each wine glass with glass cleaner and a lint-free cloth. Then, tape off the stems of the glasses, so that only their bases are exposed. If you’re worried about overspray, you can also cover the rest of the glasses with packing paper or newspaper.
2. PAINT: Shake your can of Chalkboard spray paint for one minute after the mixing ball begins to rattle. Then, holding the can 10-12” away from the base of the first glass, spray the chalkboard paint in a steady back-and-forth motion. Apply 2-3 coats to the base of the wine glass about 10 minutes apart. Repeat this step on the rest of your glasses.
3. FINISH: Let the glasses dry for two hours before removing the painter’s tape. Then, set the glasses aside for three days to let the chalkboard paint cure. After three days, rub the side of a piece of chalk on the base of each wine glass to condition the chalkboard. Wipe the chalk off with a dry cloth, and your glasses are ready for entertaining!
   Note: To clean the glasses, do not put them in the dishwasher. Instead, wash them by hand with warm water and dish soap. Avoid using an abrasive sponge.
